Well it has been a week so far, that P90X Round 1 was over, and I had some amazing results in the weight lost department and tomorrow starts Round 2! OH YEAH!!! and I will be looking for muscle this time :o)
So what did I do during that apparent week off? I had an opportunity to try Insanity for a week from a friend, and I tell you, it was INSANE!! My calves were killing me the first 3 days. I was really sore, but I was able to keep up thanks to P90X, a couple of times I had to modify towards the end or stop for 5sec, but I was able to follow through and it felt good.
I will also mention that lots of people called me insane, not just because of Insanity but because the heat wave we had was retarded and I don’t have A/C it was really really hot and I still worked out, I sweat even more and I drank a full bottle of water during the workout, but hey I am Puerto Rican and I can take the heat LOL :o)
I did not record any data, but I will provide you with a review of the first week. Lets take a look at that…
Insanity:
Insanity lives up to it’s name for sure. It is pretty hardcore, so far the videos for the first period are 40min long, for those that have done P90X 40min is nothing because the time we workout is minimum 1hr. However these 40min will be the most challenging 40min of your life! Think of Insanity as Plyometrics X times 10. It is a cardio vascular training circuit of constant quick moves and jumps and I mean lots of jumping and also getting down on to plank and getting back up, and if you thought you sweat with Plyo X, just wait till you try Insanity.
The warm up alone is a killer. It is 10min straight non-stop. Basically you jog in place, do jumping jacks, heisman, 1-2-3 heisman, run with knees down, run with knees up, more jumping, mummy kicks, you do this for 3.33min then you repeat but faster and repeat again but faster and there is no break during that time, when Shaun T talks about the next move it is done during the current move so he does not talk to give you time to rest, it’s very hardcore. Then you get a 30sec break. Then you do stretches, which use yoga moves, then you have 30sec break and workout starts.
The great majority of the workouts are mostly running in place, jumping, squatting, you do many different types of exercises in plank position like in, out, stand up and jump or even push up jacks and walking push ups; other exercises like 4 push ups, run (8 steps) then get up, jump and back down and start all over, real killer. The most interesting part is that most of the routines last anywhere between 3.5min to 4min non-stop then 30sec break, repeat the same routine 2 more times but each time faster and then do a different routine and repeat that 2 more times and every time faster.
The first week consists of:
- Fit Test: Not like P90X fit test, you need to do this fit test every week, it is to gage how you are doing, every exercise is 1min long and you have 1min break in between.
- Plyometric Cardio Circuit
- Cardio Power & Resistance
- Cardio Recovery: This is a bit of Yoga, and some other interesting moves, he is suppose to take it easy on you, but hell it’s not that easy.
- Pure Cardio: I really have to say something about this one, it starts like the others 10min of intense non-stop warm up, 30sec break, stretching with yoga moves, 30sec break, then 15min of non stop cardio vascular exercises, the majority of exercises that you have already done before all back to back, no repeats here & in the video you will see people breaking down and Shaun T telling them to take a break, it is so INSANE! I was able to make it with out a break till 12.5min then I had to stop for 5sec then I kept going but a bit slower at times.
- Plyometric Cardio Circuit: This one is repeated at the end of your week.
- Rest
This is one killer program and I want to purchase this at some point. Now I will say this, I personally do not recommend people who are very out of shape to start with insanity, it can kill you LOL, if I would have not done P90X I would have killed myself I think. I do recommend to begin with P90X first and if you are really really really out of shape and pretty overweight, you can start slower and go with 10 minute trainer and if you think you can hack a bit more then start with Power 90. The reason is that lots of us start giving it our all the first couple of days until we are to sore and with Insanity if you don’t watch your heart rate you could end up blacking out. I think the best way to find out if you can start with Insanity or not is consult your doctor.

I lost more inches yet again and I even lost .5 inches on my knees LOL I had to measure it several times to make sure it was right LOL because it never changed during the 90 days of P90X, but hey I had not jumped and run so much before so in a sense I am not surprised.
Now my calves and forearms increased, and I believe that is where the muscle growth is.
Tomorrow I start P90X Round 2 with Chest & Back + Ab Ripper X, I miss Ap Ripper LOL oh and this time I start with Whey Protein, I just purchased it and will start using it tomorrow, this post is already long enough so I will have some info on what I am using tomorrow.
Thank you for your time.
Mike
PS: Tomorrow I will update the side bar as well. :o)
